- A markedly diminished effect with continued use of the same amount of alcohol
Withdrawal (REMEMBER death can occur with alcohol withdrawal I cannot make this more clear!)

2. alcohol (or closely related substance) is used to relieve or avoid withdrawal symptoms
Mild vs moderate vs severe
Mild: 2-3 symptoms (would see me)
Moderate: 4-5 symptoms (IOP and upward)
Severe: 6 or more (inpatient)
Prevalence
Common across cultures but highest in native american and native alaskans
Risk
Genetics and environment; environment can include positive attitudes towards drinking and availability of it
Gender differences
Higher in males then females but females face greater risk of higher blood alcohol contents and physical issues associated with alcohol such as liver disease.
