Arrange for the train to be stopped by the quickest means possible
If your driver is incapacitated and you can’t get signal protection, what must you do and how should you do it? (1)

*Place a track circuit operating clip (TCOC) on every obstructed line

If you ask for an emergency switch off, what does that make you? What are your responsibilities? (2)
PICEE (Person in charge of the electrical emergency)
- ECO will tell you the limits of the emergency switch off
- You must identify yourself to anyone arriving on site
- You will wait for the Rail Incident Officer (RIO) to arrive
- RIO will take over responsibility
- You and the RIO must contact the ECO confirming the handover
before leaving the site
Can you walk past a limited clearance sign? (1)
Yes, if there are no trains approaching
When can you use a limited clearance telephone? (1)
Only in an emergency when no other form of communication is available

- Give your location
- State the nature of the call
- Request what you need doing, eg the line needs to be blocked or the
electricity needs switching off - State if you need the emergency services
- Give your phone number
- Follow any instructions given

If you get caught out when crossing the line and you can’t reach a position of safety, what do you do? (6)
- Lie down on the ground
- Gather all clothing and loose garments around you
- Stay in this position until the train has passed
- Once you are sure no other trains are approaching move to a position
of safety as quickly as possible - Report ‘a near miss’ to the Signaller
