Schizophrenia
A. 2 or more of the following symptoms, significant portion of 1 month
1. Delusions
2. Hallucinations
3. Disorganized speech
4. Grossly disorganized or catatonic behaviour
5. Negative symptoms
B. Level of function decreased in one or more major areas in life
C. At least 6 months, can include prodormal or residual periods
schizophreniform disorder
- At least one symptom, from brief psychotic disorder + negative symptoms
- 1 month period, at most 6 months
Schizoaffective disorder
- An uninterrupted period of illness which a major mood episode is concurrent with criterion A for schizophrenia and present for active and residual portions of the illness
- Delusions or hallucinations for 2 or more weeks in absence of mood episode
- 2 specifiers; bipolar type (manic) or depressive type
Delusional disorder
- Presence of one, or more, delusions with a duration of 1 month or longer
- Never met the criteria for schizophrenia
- Function not markedly impaired, behaviour is not obviously odd or bizarre
breif pysychotic disorder
Presence of one, or more, of the following symptoms;
1. Delusions
2. Hallucinations
3. Disorganized speech
4. Grossly disorganized or catatonic behaviour
Between 1 day to 1 month
Disorganized behavior: Disorganized psychomotor activity
- Dishinibition
They are not in control of their body, inhibit motor activity - opposition
Body is against trying to control it
body is in control, - Waxy flexibility
Cant voluntarily get out of a position - Echopraxia
do movements shown to them
-Echolalia
Mimicking another’s speech
- Posturing
ex hold same positions for the whole day, - Mannerism
repetitive movements, cant control his hand per say,
Disorganized symptoms
circumstantially
tangentially
flight of ideas
loose associations
word salad
thought blocking
clang associations
preservation
Negative symptoms:
absence or insufficient of normal behavior
- Avolition
- Alogia
- Anhedonia
Positive symptoms:
delusions and hallucinations
Delucions
Delusion of grandeur: Exceptional attributes or value
Delusions of persecution - going to be armed or harassed
Referential delusions
Erotomanic delusions: someone is in love
Hallucinations
Different kinds:
Auditory
visual
tactile
like phantom pain, sensory hallucinations
olfactory
gustory
proprioceptive
equilibioceptive
