What are the limitations of a PA’s supervisor?
supervises only in those areas within the supervisor’s competence
Under what circumstances may a PA’s supervisor delegate supervisory authority?
- to ensure competent supervision of areas outside the supervisor’s competence

What are the requirements of a PA’s supervisor when delegating supervisory authority?

- education, training, and experience of the PA

What does supervision of full-time PAs consist of?
face-to-face supervision delivered in the setting where services are provided,
- at least 1 hour per week for PAs with doctoral degrees
- at least 2 hours per week for PAs who are ABDs
- at least 3 hours per week for all other PAs
- at least 1 hour for comprehensive client evaluations of 5 hours or more
How are supervision times prorated based on PA’s weekly schedule and/or experience?
supervision time requirements:
- may be reduced by 1/2 for a PA with 3 or more years of full-time experience or its equivalent as a PA
- may be reduce proprotionately for part-time PAs
- shall be doubled for PAs who has not completed all training relevant to services being offered
What are the responsibilities of a PA’s supervisor?
- assuming full responsibility for PAs services
- requiring PA report all complaints about PA
- be available for emergency consultation
- supervise a maximum of 7 PAs
- ensure that each PA practices within the scope of the PAs competence
- maintain appropriate records of supervision
- avoid engaging in a dual relationship (excepting employees)
- immediately report date of termination of supervisory relationship
What is entailed in appropriate supervisory records?
- dates and duration of supervisory sessions
- client names for all cases reviewed
- outcomes of all cases
- reasons for supervisory delegation
How is a PA represented to the public?
- written communications include “psychology associate under the supervision of (name & license # of supervisor)”
- repetitive references may be omitted
- references may not include “psychologist”
- clients are informed of supervision arrangement
- PAs do not engage in or give the appearance of practicing psychology independently
- PA and supervisor cosign communications, except for routine entries
