doctoral degree in psychology
A degree received from a program that is accredited by the APA or CPA, or is designated by the National Register
– or –
if outside North America, completed before 1981 (US) or 1988 (Canada), or no longer exists, meets the National Register’s criteria.
The Board may also consider up to 9 postdoctoral semester hours in its determination of degree.
practice psychology
To provide any person any service for compensation applying psychological principles, methods, or procedures (which do not amount to practice of medicine) for understanding, predicting, or influencing behavior.
This definition includes specifically mentioned aspects of clinical practice, research, and testing, as well as biofeedback instruments that do not pierce the skin.

abuse (child)
physical or mental injury of a child by any parent or caregiver or household or family member, in which the child’s health or welfare is harmed or at substantial risk of harm, or sexual abuse of a child whether physical injury is sustained or not
sexual abuse
an act involving sexual molestation or exploitation of a child by a parent or caregiver or household or family member, including rape, incest, or any sexual offense, sodomy, or unnatural or perverted sexual practices
identifying information
name of a child who is alleged to have been abused or neglected, child’s household member, child’s parent or guardian, individual suspected of abuse or neglect of a child
neglect
leaving of a child unattended or other failure to give a child proper care and attention by any person responsible for the child, where the child’s health or welfare was harmed or placed at substantial risk of harm, or there is mental injury to the child or substantial risk of it
abuse (vulnerable adult)
sustaining of any physical injury as a result of cruel or inhumane treatment or malicious act
exploitation (vulnerable adult)
any action involving the misuse of a vulnerable adult’s funds, property, or person
neglect (vulnerable adult)
willful deprivation of a vulnerable adult of adequate food, clothing, essential medical treatment or habilitative therapy, shelter, or supervision
self-neglect (vulnerable adult)
inability of a vulnerable adult to provide her/himself services necessary for physical and mental health, the absence of which impairs her/his well-being
vulnerable adult
an adult who lacks the physical or mental capacity to provide for his/her daily needs
