Types of Insight Therapies
- Psychodynamic Therapies
- Humanistic Therapies
- Gestalt Therapies
What is Psychoanalysis
This is used to uncover unconscious content of a client’s psyche in order to relive psychic tension, it is used to resolve unconscious conflicts
What is Free Association
This is when you write or say down the first thing that comes to your mind of what you heard
What is Resistance “Mental Blocks”
This is the patient’s conscious or unconscious attempt to block disturbing memories, motives, and experiences.
What is Transference
This is the projection of unresolved conflicts and feelings from the client to the therapist
What is Psychodynamic Therapy
This has to do with Freud, it says that a person’s development is determined by forgotten events in early childhood and human behavior, and it is largely influenced by the unconscious
What is Humanistic Therapy
This deals with helping people grow in self-awareness and self-acceptance to boost their self-fulfillment, it deals with conscious rather than unconscious thoughts
What is Person-Centered (Rogerian-Therapy)
By Carl Rogers, the therapist listens and doesn’t judge the client at all, and avoids guiding the client toward certain insights. This therapy has genuineness, empathy, active listening(restating and seeking clarification), and unconditional positive regard
What is Gestalt Therapy
This therapy pushes the client to decide whether that will allow past conflicts to control their future or whether they will take control of their own destiny, it uses the empty chair technique
What is Group Therapy
This is in a small group of 6-12 people with an included trained therapist, it is less expensive and the therapist can treat multiple people at a time
What are Self help Groups
This is a small group of people without a trained therapist, leading themselves
What is Couple/Family Therapy
The therapist discusses issues regarding relationships and the individuals involved understand how their behavior affects others, it uses communication skills
