How is it different form behaviourist perspective?
A
- not highly scientific like behaviourist
- psychodynamic is much more theoretical

What is the Oedipus Complex?
A
- relationship with parents
- Oedipus complex- a son will desire their mother and see their dad as rival for affection. How parents respond to this will affect a child development

How do psychodynamics study the unconscious mind:
A
- slips of the tongue
- dreams

Strengths:
A
- can used to explain behaviours that behaviourist can’t (adult baby syndrome)
- not too reductionist (looks at other aspects to behaviour)

Weaknesses:
A
- not very scientific
- poor sampling methods (very small and involve patients who are distressed).
- not very replicable (Oedipus complex was based of Freud’s own childhood experiences).

How can it be applied?
A
A good way to learn about phobias and what’s caused them (the horse for little Hans)
