Q

Valium actions?

A

Crosses the blood-brain barrier in the cerebral motor cortex to suppress seizure activity and cause CNS slowing. It will stop active seizure, but it does not prevent them. Does not have any analgesic properties.

Ketamine actions?

A

Acts on the limbic system and cortex to block afferent transmissions of impulse associated with pain perception. produces short-acting amnesia without muscular relaxation.

29
Q

A

less than 30 seconds / 5-10 min up to 1-2 hours

30

Versed

40
Q

Versed classification?

A

Benzodiazepine

41
Q

Versed actions?

A

Short acting benzodiazepine which produces CNS depression with some amnesic effects. It easily crosses the blood-brain barrier to cause deep sedation. It is 3 to 4 times as potent as Valium. It has no analgesic effects.

42

Versed onset/duration?

A

1-3 min / 2-6 hours

43
Q

Versed indications?

A

Generalized seizures, status epilepticus, sedation prior to cardioversion or intubation

44
Q

Versed contraindication?

A

Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, patients in shock or coma, known ETOH ingestion, and respiratory depression. Use with caution in patients with respiratory diseases such as COPD and CHF.

45
Q

Versed side effects?

A

Respiratory depression and/or arrest is possible if given rapid IVP. Hypotension and tachycardia, especially in older adults.

46
Q

Versed route of administration?

A

IN, IV, IO, deep IM

47
Q

Versed adult dose?

A

IN: 0.2mg/kg; max dose of 10mg
Slow IV: 0.1mg/kg up to 10mg (usually start at 1-2.5mg)
Deep IM: 10mg (0.2mg/kg) Consider lower dose of patients with respiratory disease or patients older than 60
