Drugs for mood disorders
acute phase antidepressants - selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor - fluoxetine, citaloproam, setraline
- tricyclic antidepressants - amitrioytline, nortripyline - monoamine oxidase inhibitor
Mood stabilsing drugs - carbamazepine, valoprate, lamotrgine
- lithium - avoid NSAIDs and metronidazole
Antipsychotic medicines - olazepine, quitiapine, risperidone

Eating disorders

comfort eating - used as a coping strategy for anxiety
anorexia nevora - altered perception of body image - don’t eat

Atypical - don’t cause extra pyramidal side effects - control movement)
Extrapyrimdal side effects
akathisia - feeling of restlessness - tapping fingers
dystonia - muscles voluntary contract and contort leading to painful movements/positions
parkinsonism - same symptoms as parkinsons but caused by medication, tremor, slower through prcoess, rigid muscles, facial stiifness
tardive dyskinesia - uncontrolable facial movements - do not go away when medicine stops
Treating symptoms - use atypical antipsychotics, beta blockers non selective, anticholinegics
Schizopherenia
a thought disorder where there are distortions of thinking and perception
delusions
multifactorial abnormaility of doparminegic neurotransmitters
Mangement - CBT, congnitive remdiation, family intervention, drug therapy
Mood disorders
