The processing of info into the memory system
Storage
The retention of encoded info over time
Retrieval
Process of getting info out of memory
Sensory memory
The imediate initial recording of sensory info in the memory system
Iconic memory
A momemtary sensory memory of visual stimuli ( .3-.5secs)
Echoic memory
Momentary sensory memory of auditory stimuli (2-4secs)
Short term memory ( working memory)
Activated memory that holds a few items briefly
Limited duration of about 3 secs
capacity is 7 + or - 2
Long term memory
The relatively permanent aqnd limitless storehouse of the memory system

Semantic
a type of long-term memory involving the capacity to recall words, concepts, or numbers, which is essential for the use and understanding of language.

Episodic
a type of long-term memory that involves conscious recollection of previous experiences together with their context in terms of time, place, associated emotions, etc.
