Low mood/ pervasive sadness
Anhedonia - loss on enjoyment
Anergia - no energy for simple ADLs
What are the physical symptoms of depression?

What are the psychological symptoms of depression?

What are the impacts of suicide on society?
Devastating social consequences and is a burden on public health.
How common is suicide outside of mental health disorder?
10% of suicides exist outside the context of mental health

When do we see mania?
We can see it in bipolar disorder, where patients experience depression and then mania which is the complete pathological opposite of depression

Elated mood Irritability Grandiose Over spending Lack of sleep Rapid speech Poor concentration and poor judgement
What are the symptoms of schizophrenia?
Hallucinations Delusions Passivity Thought alleviation Abnormal behaviour Disorganised speech Disturbance of emotions
What is formal thought disorder?
When you produce meaningful words but when put together in a sentence, they don’t make sense
What emotional disturbance may we see in schizophrenia?
We may see a lack of empathy (apathy) and a general bland affect.
