Questions to ponder
What is a Type 1 error?
the probability of finding a significant result (statistically) when there is not a true significant difference between your groups
example: A person is diagnosed with a medical condition they do not have.
What is a Type 2 error?
The probability of not finding a
significant result (statistically) when a true
significant difference should emerge in your
study.
example: a test for a disease may report a negative result when the patient is infected.
what is the percentage of confidence you need to have in your findings?
95% or higher, (p value of .05 or less)
what is a post hoc examination?
a statistical analysis specified after a study has been concluded and the data collected. A post-hoc test is done to identify exactly which groups differ from each other
what is a planned comparison?
a comparison between two or more quantities that is planned before data is collected.
what are two groups called in experiments with one independent variable?
t-test
what are 3 or more groups called in experiments with one independent variable?
one way ANOVA
