Nonverbal behavior
ex: touch and eye contact
- have dual func
- express intimacy/dominance depending if used reciprocally (intimacy) or nonreciprocally (dominance)
ex: touch = intimate behavior
- both touch= intimate exchange
- can’t touch you, but you can’t touch me = power
ex: eye contact
- gaze at you, but can’t gaze at me = power
- gaze at e/o = intimacy
Equals and nonequals
Equal power:
- mirror match what other is doing nonverbally
Nonequal power=
- dominate e/o
- don’t reciprovate nonverbally what other is doing
- pull away to avoid it
