What is the difference between acute stress reaction and PTSD?
Acute stress reaction is diagnosed in the first 4 weeks following trauma where as PTSD is after 4 weeks

What is refeeding syndrome?
Occurs in people with severe nutritional deficit for an extended period when they start to eat again. Leads to:
Hypomagnesaemia
Hypokalaemia
Hypophoshataemia
Also at risk of arrhythmias, heart failure and fluid overload
What is the management of refeeding syndrome?
Slowly reintroducing food with restricted calories
Magnesium, potassium, phosphate and glucose monitoring
fluid monitoring
ECG monitoring
Supplementation with electrolytes and vitamines (particularly B vitamines and thiamine)
What is the presentation of personality disorders?
Strong, intense emotions Emotional istability Anger Low self esteem Impulsive behaviour Substance abuse
What are the anxious personality disorders?
Avoidant personality disorder: anxiety about rejection
Dependent: reliance on others
Obsessive compulsive: unrealistic expectations of how things should be done
What are the suspicious personality disorders?
Paranoid: trusting or revealing personal info
Schizoid: lack of interest or desire to form relationships
Schizotypal: unusual beliefs, thoughts and behaviours
What are the emotional/impulsive personality disorders?
Borderline: fluctuating strong emotions
Histrionic: need to be centre of attention
Narcissistic: feelings that they are special
What is the management of personality disorders?
CBT
No medical management
What is the difference between postnatal depression and puerperal psychosis?
Post natal depression start within a month and peaks at 3 months
Puerperal psychosis onset within first 2-3 weeks
What is somatisation?
Multiple physical symptoms present for at least 2 years
Patient refuses to accept reassurance or negative test results
What should you start for treatment following the first episode of psychosis?
Antipsychotic treatment as well as psychological intervention
