- When should medications be withdrawn pre-surgery?

- Hyperkalemia drugs = Spirnolactone, Heparins, ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs, Tacromilus
- Hypokalemia drugs = BTS, bendroflumethiaze, theophylline and salbutamol.
- Micorgram drugs = Naloxone, Nitrates Levothyroxine, Tamulosin, digoxin, colchicine, salbutamol, folic acid
- 1% = 1g in 100ml
- Avoid flouroquinolones, aminoglycosides and macrolides in myasthenia patients (FAM).
- Avoid levofloxacin for epilepsy
- Tamoxifen can increase risk of endometrial cancer (unopposed oestrogen)
- Finasteride decreases levels of PSA and should not be used in obstructive uropathy.
- When should medications be withdrawn pre-surgery? Sex hormones (4 weeks), Aspirin (7 days), Warfarin (5 days), Apixaban (3 days), Lithium (24 hours), LMWH (12 hours)
