Beta blockers

A

Asthma or COPD (risk of bronchospasm) – asthma is an absolute contraindication! * * 2nd or 3rd degree heart block * * Sick sinus syndrome * * Uncontrolled heart failure * * Bradycardia or hypotension * * Hyperkalaemia * * Metabolic acidosis * * Severe peripheral arterial disease * * Use with caution in diabetic patients and warn them that beta blockers may mask the signs of a hypoglycaemic attack (e.g. a diabetic patient might not experience signs of hypoglycaemia such as palpitations or tremor, due to beta blocker therapy)

A

History of gall-bladder or biliary tract disease including gallstones; photosensitivity to fibrates
