Proteins Flashcards
1
Q
What is the structure of amino acids
A
amino group and carboxyl group attached to a carbon housing an ‘R’ group
2
Q
What are the bond invoked in proteins
A
Covent bonds and are called peptide bonds
3
Q
Name what occurs in the primary structure of proteins
A
The joining of amino acids, only peptide bonds occur at this stage
4
Q
What happens in the secondary structure
A
Hydrogen bonds form to create an alpha helix or a beta pleated sheet
5
Q
What happens in the tertiary structure
A
The proteins will fold causing the ‘R’ groups to interacts causing different bonds
- hydrophobic or hydrophilic interactions
- hydrogen bond
- ionic binds
- disulphides bonds
