Q

Why are proteins important

A

the cell communicates via protein interactions, binding sites, and signaling molecules. Adhering specific proteins to the surface of a material can induce a specific behavior from a protein.

Q

Vroman Effect

A

proteins that have higher mobility will adhere to a surface first, due to diffusion principles and kinetics, however, later, proteins with a higher affinity to the surface will displace other proteins. (thermodynamic)

A

there are roughly two phases, a rapid diffusion controlled stage, followed by a second slower surface controlled phase.
