Protein Synthesis- TRANSLATION Flashcards
DNA (Template)
TACGGATTAACT -> AUGCCUAAUUGA
Step 1 of Translation
mRNA leaves the nucleus and enters the cytoplasm of the cell.
Step 2 of Translation
It attaches to a rhibosome (protein making factory) and, the mRNA is translated by the rhibosome to make a polypetide chain (a protein).
Step 3 of Translation
The building blocks of a protein is called amino acids (20 types).
Step 4 of Translation
The process needs help of another molecule called the tRNA which carries the amino acids in the cytoplasm and helps join the chain being at the rhibosome.
How do tRNA’s work?
-Rhibosomes read the mRNA three nucelotides at a time (a codon)
- contains the complementary anti-codons for mRNA codons and the corresponding amino acids
-mRNA always start with a start codon (AUG)- codes for methione
- Ends with a stop codon (UAA/UAG/UGA)
What is a mutation?
Is a permanant change to a DNA sequence- changes the protein’s structure or function
