Protein Synthesis Inhibitors (Oxazolidnones) Flashcards
Oxazolidnones include :
1) Linezolid
2) Tedizolid
MOA of linezolid :
Binds to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit , inhibiting the formation of the 70S initiation complex
Antibacterial spectrum of Linezolid :
1) against MRSA ( methicillin resistant S.aureus )
2) against VRE ( Vancomycin-resistant enterococci )
3) Penicillin- resistant streptococci
4) Resistant Mycobacterium
Linezolid is mainly ……………………but ………………… against ……………
Bacteriostatic / bactericidal / streptococci
Clinical spectrum of Linezolid :
Treatment of drug- resistant gram positive organisms
Linezolid drug is alternative of …………………….. for ……………..
Deptomycin / VRE
Metabolism of Linezolid :
Oxidised in the liver into two inactive metabolites
Elemination of Linezolid :
The two inactive metabolites are excreted in the urine
Adverse effects of Linezolid :
1) GI upset ( Most common )
2) for patients taken the drug for more than 10 days , thrombocytopenia occurs
3) Serotonin Syndrome
4) Greater than 28 days of use , peripheral neuropathy occurs .
