- the gene in the nucleus unwinds to expose the bases
- free mRNA nucleotides in the nucleus make a complementary strand of the DNA and the mRNA leaves the nucleus through a pore

- the mRNA attaches to the ribosome in the cytoplasm
- the tRNA attaches it anticodon to the matching codon of the mRNA
- tRNA releases its amino acid and a peptide bond from between the other amino acids to form a protein
