Protein Synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
what is RNA
A
ribonucleic acid
2
Q
what are the nucleotides of RNA
A
adenine, cytosine, guanine ad uracil
3
Q
what are the 3 types of RNA
A
mRNA, tRNA and rRNA
4
Q
where does transcription occur
A
inside the nucleus
5
Q
where does translation occur
A
inside the cytoplasm
6
Q
what is transcription
A
the process of making a copy of DNA
7
Q
outline the steps of transcription
A
- the gene in the nucleus unwinds to expose the bases
- free mRNA nucleotides in the nucleus make a complementary strand of the DNA and the mRNA leaves the nucleus through a pore
8
Q
outline the steps of translation
A
- the mRNA attaches to the ribosome in the cytoplasm
- the tRNA attaches it anticodon to the matching codon of the mRNA
- tRNA releases its amino acid and a peptide bond from between the other amino acids to form a protein
9
Q
what is translation
A
the process of making proteins
10
Q
what are the molecules made during translation and transcription
A
translation is protein and transcription is mRNA
