Protein Synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
What is the process of protein synthesis? (1)
A
- Sections of DNA in nucleus contain code for sequence of amino acids in polypeptide chain
- DNA unzips and section is exposed, copied by mRNA, called transcription
- Ribosomes and rRNA produced in nucleolus in nucleus, attach to RER
- mRNA moves from nucleus through nuclear pore to RER and attaches to ribosome, mRNA then translated and protein is synthesised and transported through RER

Q
Protein synthesis (2)
A
- Membrane punched off to form a transport vesicle containing protein. Vesicle transported through cytoplasm and fused with membrane of Golgi body at cis face
- Protein modified, packaged and transported through Golgi, membrane pinched off to at trans face form secretly vesiscle containing protein
- Secretory vesicle transported through cytoplasm, fuses with cell membane and is secreted in exocytosis.
