Protein is a Polymer of Amino Acids Flashcards
How are amino acids joined together?
Through peptide bonds
Is there rotation around the N-C (peptide) bond in a polypeptide?
No because the bond angle is fixed.
What is the difference between amino acids and amino acid residues?
Amino acids are the individual subunits before polymerization. After polymerization and the N- and C-terminals have been altered, the remainders of the amino acids are called the amino acid residues.
What is a peptide?
Any chain of amino acids linked to one another.
What is a protein?
Usually a longer peptide which has folded into a unique 3D shape which has a defined function.
Which terminus of the peptide is written to the left? The right?
N-terminus at left, C-terminus at right.
