Protection Of The Brain Flashcards
What are the layers of protection of the brain in order
Skin, aponeurosis, periosteum, bone, dura mater, arachnoid, archnoid trabeculae, pia mater
What is the aponeurosis
A tough layer under the skin to protect the brain
What is periosteum
Protection that covers all bones
What is dura Mater
A thick layer that protects the brain
What are the 2 parts of the dura mater
Flax cerebri goes over the top of the brain and then splits into two parts of tentorium cerebelli for structural support
What is the arachnoid
A layer that protects the brain - web like tissue that acts as a shock absorber
What is the arachnoid trabeulae
It is a layer that protects the brain, acts like a shock absorber and is web like
What is the pia mater
It is a layer of protection that sits directly onto the brain
What is the tough layer that is under the skin to protect the brain?
Aponeurosis
What layer of protections goes over all bone (including the skull)
Periosteum
What part of the brain protection layers has 2 parts to it; is very tough and lays under the bone
Dura Mater
What is the first layer of the web like layer of protection of the brain
Arachnoid
What is the second layer of web like protection of the brain
Arachnoid trabeculae
What is the layer of protection that sits directly over the brain
Pia Mater
