What are the uses and pharmacological action of prostaglandins

A
  1. GI tract: reduces gastric acid secretion and increases the creation of mucus and prevents NSAID induced ulcers
  2. CVS: maintains the patency of ductus arteriosus before surgery. decreases peripheral, pulmonary and coronary resistance. Used to treat hypertension. Pulmonary hypertension
  3. Platelets: inhibits platelet aggregation
  4. Eye: decrease intraocular tension. Used in glaucoma
  5. Uterus: contract pregnant uterus, abortion, induction of labor, cervical priming, postpartum haemorrhage
  6. Male reproductive system: useful in treatment of erectile disfunction
