the ability for a material to return to its original shape after a force is applied

- bending (self explanatory)
- shear - two parallel forces in opposite directions

strength, elasticity, ductility, malleability, hardness, toughness
what is ductility?
the amount that a material can be permanently deformed when a force is applied - usually related to stretching to form wires
what is malleability?
the ability for a material to have its shape permanently changed by hammering and to not break
what is hardness?
the ability for a material to resist wear and scratching
what is toughness?
also known as impact resistance, the ability for a material to not break when sudden force is applied

density, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, absorbency and fusibility
define density
mass per unit volume, e.g. grams per cube centimetres
define absorbency
the ability to draw in moisture
