design strategies Flashcards
1
Q
what is an example of a product developed using iterative design?
A
dyson vacuum cleaners
2
Q
what is iterative design?
A
a cyclic approach to design where each iteration of a product is evaluated and tested, which leads to further iterations and eventually a fully refined product
3
Q
name two disadvantages of iterative design
A
- you could get too focussed on the current iteration that you lose sight of the final product as a whole
- can be time and material consuming to produce lots of iterations and prototypes
4
Q
name 3 advantages of iterative design
A
- it’s likely that problems will be ironed out earlier in the design process
- user feedback is constantly being gained
- evidence of design progress can be show to stakeholders or investors
5
Q
what is user-centred design?
A
where the needs and wants of the target audience are considered at every stage of the design process
6
Q
name two advantages of user-centred design
A
- the user has a greater sense of ownership on the final product
- the product is more likely to meet the user’s expectations and needs
7
Q
name two disadvantages of user-centred design
A
- requires extra time to meet with and gain feedback from consumers and adjust the design
- may become too focussed on a specific user so may not be suited to the target audience as a whole
