Q

What are the trends for hydrocarbons?

A

1) The shorter the molecule, the less viscous it is.
2) The shorter the molecule, the more volatile it is. (turn into gas at a lower temperature)
3) The shorter the molecule, the more flammable it is.

Q

Pros and cons of using crude oil?

A

Pros: Things are ‘set up’ for crude oil already, easiest and cheapest to use, more reliable.

Cons: It’s non-renewable (will run out), oil spills, contributes to global warming, acid rain and global dimming.
