What is the property of a material?
The property of a material is how it’s going to act physically depending on a variety of other physical factors.
What is the characteristic of a material?
The characteristic of a material is the description of its aesthetics.
What does it mean when a material is ductile?
That it can be deformed when bent, twisted and stretched into a wire
What does it mean when a material is Hard?
It can withstand damage or wear
What does it mean when a material is strong?
It can withstand forces it without bending or breaking
What does it mean when a material is malleable?
It can be formed into a variety of shapes and deform without cracking
What does it mean when a material is stiff?
It can hold its shape without bending
What does it mean when a material is brittle?
It can’t absorb energy and it will result in a breakage.
What does it mean when a material is hard?
It can withstand indentation, wear and scratching.
What does it mean when a material is tough?
It can withstand an impact without breaking
What are the common properties of plastic?
- Water resistance
- Comes in a range of colours
- durable
- malleable
- tough (impact resistance)
- They don’t rust
- Not thermally or electrically conductive
- Easy to source (purchase)
- Cost effective
