Prone Sequence Flashcards
Prone 0-3 Months
(0) Physiologic flexion- legs under pelvis
Pelvis lowered to support surface
(0-1) Clears airway
Neck strengthened: -unilaterally
-bilaterally
Extension musculature strengthened cephalocaudal
(3) Lifts head up to 45 degrees
Prone 4 Months
Lift head up 90 degrees
Arms move out from under body with increased degree of extension
Prone 5 Months
“Swimming”
Prone prop on forearms -> prone prop on extended arms
Subtle lateral weight shifts-elongation on weight bearing side
DISSOCIATION of head and limbs
1. Bilateral arm and leg movements
2. Pedaling
3. “Bottom lifting”- feet to mouth
Prone 6 Months
Pivoting in a circle
Weight shifts to reach
- Counterbalanced by lateral weight shift of trunk that produces trunk bending away from side of weight shift
Extension complete when hips extended and relatively adducted
-Total body “righting” against gravity
-Elicited in air or spontaneously
Prone 6-8 Months
Segmental rolling
prone -> supine happens before supine -> prone
Prone 8 Months
Transition in and out of sitting safely
Crawling backward
Crawling forward
Creeping on hands and knees
Prone 9 Months
Assume 4 point position
Rocks on hands and knees
DISSOCIATION of pelvis from trunk
Reciprocal creeping (8 or 9)
Pull to kneeling
(Typically do not have the control to stand through kneeling or 1/2 kneel until walk)
