Prokaryotic Cells Flashcards
What’s are the optional components in a bacteria cell and their functions?
Flagellum- movement, maybe be multiple
Chromatophore- Inner folding of membrane that is site of photosynthesis
Slime capsule- protection from protects from chemical attack
Mesosome- Inner folding of membrane for respiration (larger SA)
What is the structure of a virus?
Acellular, DNA or RNA and a protein capsule, some have lipoprotein envelope
Why are viruses not considered to be living cells?
They have no cytoplasm
What do prokaryotic cells not have the eukaryotic have?
No membrane bound organelles e.g. mitochondria, DNA is circular and a loop and free, ribosomes are 70s rather then 80s and not attached
If a bacteria has a cell wall, what is it made up off?
Murein peptidoglycan
