prokaryotic cells Flashcards
what are prokaryotic cells?
doesnt contain membrane bound organelles, contain two types of circular and plasmid DNA
what are circular Dna?
it floats free in cytoplasm and is not associated with histones
what are plasmids?
small loops of additional DNA containig genes beneficial to survival
what are the flagella?
hair-like structure that rotate to move prokaryotes
what are the ribosomes in prokaryotes?
site of translation during photosynthesis (only 70s ribosomes)
synopsis of the cell (plasma) membrane in prokaryotes
a phospholipid bilayer that regulates transport of substance in and out of the cell
what do prokaryotic cell walls contain?
Murein
how do prokaryotes reproduce?
asexually through binary fission
what is secreted by prokaryotes?
slime
what is a capsule in prokaryotes?
layer of slime that protects the prokaryotes from the immune system or other cells
state two types of prokaryotes?
bacteria cell, sperm cell
