Prokaryotic Cells Flashcards
1
Q
What are Prokaryotic Cells?
A
Usually smaller than Eukaryotic.
Bacteria
2
Q
State where the DNA is
A
Circular DNA which floats freely in the Cytoplasm.
Circular DNA presents as one long coiled strand.
3
Q
What are Plasmids?
A
Small loops of DNA separated from main DNA molecule.
4
Q
What is Flagellum?
A
Long hair like structure that rotates enabling the cell to move.
5
Q
What is Capsule?
A
Made up of Polysaccharides.
- Helps protect bacteria from attack by immune cells.
- Helps organicism to attach to surfaces
- Helps protect cell from drying out.
6
Q
Describe Virus
A
Acellula. Not dead or alive.
They are nucleic acids surrounded by proteins. Smaller than bacteria. No plasma membrane, no ribosomes.
