PROJECTIONS Flashcards
PROJECTIONS
Radiographic projections describe the path of the central ray (CR, principle beam ofx-rays) as it travels from the x-ray tube, through the patient, to the IR.
Posteroanterior (PA) projection
CR enters posterior surface, exits anterior surface
Anteroposterior (AP) projection
CR enters anterior surface, exits posterior surface
Left lateral projection
CR enters left side (patient is in a right lateral position)
Right lateral projection
CR enters right side(patient is in a left lateral position)
Lateromedial & mediolateral projections
utilized in. extremity radiography to indicate if the CR enters the medial or lateral side of the limb or part.
AP oblique projections
The CR enters the anterior surface of the body (patient is in an RPO or LPO position)
PA oblique projections
The CR enters the posterior surface of the body (patient is in an RAO or LAO position)
