BODY(ANATOMICAL)PLANES Flashcards
Sagittal Plane
Any plane that divides the body into right and left sections. The midsagittal plane (MSP) or median sagittal plane divides the body into equal right and left halves
Coronal Plane
Any plane that divides thebody into anterior and posterior sections. The midcoronal plane (MCP) divides the body into equal anterior and posterior halves. The midaxillary plane (often used synonymously with MCP) is acoronal plane that passes through the axilla when the arm is extended above the head or at a 90 degree angle with the body
Transverse, Horizontal, or Axial Plane
Any plane that divides the body into superior and inferior sections.
Oblique Plane
A plane passing anywhere between the above three planes. Utilized primarily in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and sonography (ultrasound).
