Projectile motion Flashcards
factors affecting the horizontal displacement of a projectile
angle of release
speed of release
height of release
angle of release
the optimal angle of release is dependant on release height and landing height. 45*
if release height is lower than landing height, then the optimal angle of release need to be greater than 45 degrees (shooting a basket)
if the release height is greater than the landing height, the OAR needs to be less than 45* (shot put 26-38*)
speed of release
the greater the velocity of a projectile, the greater the horizontal displacement travelled.
height of release
a greater release height results in a greater horizontal displacement
factors affecting the flight paths of different projectiles
weight
gravity
decide whether a projectile has a flight path that is a true parabola or a distorted parabola (symmetrical curve on a graph)
projectiles with large weight force have a small air resistance force and follow a true parabolic flight path
e.g. shot put
the longer the flight path, the longer air resistance can affect a projectile
horizontal component
the horizontal motion of an object
vertical component
the upward motion of an object
