Project Planning Flashcards
What is the purpose of project planning?
- To persuade people to perform tasks in a timely manner as so not to dely others
- To make the best of the available resources
- To provide a framework for decision making in the event of change
What are the principles of project planning?
- Analysis
- Determining sequence of activities
- Assign time/cost values
- Determine critical path
Gantt Chart Technique
- Simple/ Easy to understand
- Good for showing progress/delays
- Doesnt show dependance of activities
- Not ideal for complicated jobs/ Easily ommit activities
Network Planning Technique
- A system of acitivities flowing from left to right
- Show dependency of activities
Define Activity
A task requiredby the project
Define Path
A series of connected activities between any two activities
What is the Critical Path
A set of activities on the path from the project start to end that if delayed will delay the completion of the project.
What is Critical Time?
The time required to complete all the activities on the critical path
Network Key:
ES | Activity | EF
LS | Duration | LF
ES - Latest Earliest Finish Time of preceding activity
EF - ES + Duration
LF - Earliest Latest Start of succeeding activity
LS - LF - Duration
Float = LF-EF or LS-ES
Define Total Float
Maximum time an acitivity can be delayed without affecting the critical path duration
Define Free Float
The amount of TF that can be used without reducing the following activity’s TF
FF= ES of succeding - EF of Activity
