  • Radiation
  • Toxic Substances
  • Inadequate Hygene/Welfare
17
Q

Types of accidents on site and percentage of deaths caused?

A
  • Fall 52%
  • Falling materials or objects 19%
  • Transport/ Mobile Plant 18%

  • Site transport
19
Q

What is CDM Regulations 2007?

A

-Brings together CDM 1994 and the Construction Regulations 1996
-The aim is for health and safety considerations to be treated as a normal part of a project’s development
The new CDM 2007 regulations are divided into 5 parts:
-Part 1 : the application of the Regulations and definitions
-Part 2: General duties that apply to all projects
-Part 3: Additional duties that apply to notifiable projects (more that 30 days or < 500 person days of work)
-Part 4: Practical requirements that apply to all sites
-Part 5: Transitional arrangements and revocations

20
Q

Roles and Responsibilities in CDM 2007:

A

Client - Largest Influence over how project is run
CDM Co-ordinator - Key Advisor
Designer - Designs develop from initial concepts to a detailed spec
Contractors - Plan, Manage and coordinate work
Workers - Sufficient knowledge

21
Q

What is the H&S Managment Process?

A
  • Hazard Identification
  • Risk Assessment
  • Risk Reduction
  • Emergency Preparedness
22
Q

Hazard Identification Techniques:

A
  • Brainstorming/ What if?
  • Checklist
  • HAZOP
  • FEMA
23
Q

What are the two assessments of Risk Analysis

A
  • Probability
  • Consequence
    R = P x C
24
Q

What are the three Risk Levels of Hazards?

A
  • Intolerable Risk Level = High
  • Tolerable Risk Level = Medium
  • Negligable Risk Level = Low
25
Q

How is Risk Analysis performed?

A
  1. Description of consequence
  2. Probablility of Occurance
  3. Consequence v Probability Graph/ Table
26
Q

When to perform Risk Reduction?

A
  • When risks are in intolerable reigon

- When risks in tolerable reigon and benefits outway effort

27
Q

What are the aims of Risk Reduction?

A
  • Reduce Consequence
  • Reduce Probavility of occurance
  • Reduce both
28
Q

What is the goal of emergency preparedness?

A
  • To be prepared to take the most appropriate action in the event that hazard becomes a reality to minimise its effects
  • To transfer personnel from a location with a higher risk level to one with a lower risk level
29
Q
