Q

India’s Policy Structure Relevant to GHG Mitigation

A

The Integrated Energy Policy was adopted in 2006.

Promotion of energy efficiency in all sectors, Emphasis on mass transport, Emphasis on renewables including biofuels plantations
● The Rural Electrification policy 2006 promotes renewable energy technology where grid connectivity is not possible or cost-effective.

A

Buildings are one of the major pollutants that affect urban air quality and contribute to climate change
It costs a little more to design and construct a green building. However, it costs less to operate a green building

Long Term Ecological Observatories (LTEO)

A

Long Term Ecological Observatories (LTEO) for Climate Change Studies are one of the components under the ‘Climate Change Action Programme’ with an outlay of Rs. 40 crores in the 12th Plan Period.

Aims to understand the biophysical and anthropogenic drivers of ecosystem change in the selected biomes and their effects on social- ecological responses through a network of scientific institutions.
● Assess the change of structure and function in the natural ecosystems, identification of patterns and drivers of change in the natural ecosystems.
