Food security
- UN-school feeding program (school feeding program in Haiti)
Aim: to encourage children to attend school by providing hot meals to the children
Type of aid: multilateral aid provided by World Food Programme and its partners
Implementation: implemented through Haiti’s national school meals programme.
HIV/AIDS
- ‘far away from home’ club (migrants and HIV in Vietnam)
Aim: to reduce the number of HIV cases in Vietnam
Type of aid: multilateral provided by UNAIDS
Implementation: this project undertakes HIV prevention activities with migrants working as labourers, truck drivers and sex workers.
Malaria
- home management of Malaria in Zambia
Aim: to decrease rates of malaria in Zambia through training health workers
Type of aid: multilateral: UNICEF and WHO
Implementation: health workers visit poor homes in Zambia to diagnose malaria and aid in the treatment of it. They also improve communication between health facilities and the community health workers.
Immunisation
- immunisation program in East Timor
Aim: to provide Heath care, including immunisation for pregnant women and children.
Type of aid: bilateral through the australian aid agency
Implementation: australian aid agency provides funds to NGOs to implement mobile health clinics which provide immunisations and treatment for common diseases, and also offer monitoring of children, antenatal care, advice on family planning and information on nutrition and hygiene.
Water and sanitation
- developing wells and pumps in Niger
Aim: to focus on the development of wells
Type of aid: NGO aid supplied by world vision.
Implementation: trucks with large drills are brought into villages to drill down to the water table and then a pump is attached. This reduces the amount of mud around wells and the affects that lifting water has on the bodies of women.
Literacy
- ‘We bloom’ program - education for women in Cambodia
Aim: to provide access for young women in the south-west Cambodian province of Koh Kong to education so they have skills and confidence to access job opportunities.
Type of aid: multilateral provided by CARE australia
Implementation: women attend literacy and numeracy classes and undertake a life-skills course, which assists with setting goals and learning techniques to overcome conflict and build confidence.
