Programmatic Responsibilities Flashcards
How do you utilize crisis intervention and motivational interviewing techniques when working with clients?
I have used crisis intervention (a client-centered, evidence-based counseling approach that helps individuals explore and resolve ambivalence about change) a technique used to address immediate mental health emergencies and stabilize individuals in crisis) and motivational interviewing techniques( to de-escalate situations, build trust with clients, and guide them toward making positive life changes. For example, at Sheppard Pratt, I worked with clients facing mental health crises by actively listening, identifying immediate concerns, and connecting them to appropriate resources. At Athena, I used motivational interviewing to help clients overcome housing barriers by exploring their strengths and setting achievable goals.
How do you utilize crisis intervention and motivational interviewing techniques when working with clients?
I use these techniques to de-escalate situations and build trust with clients. For instance, I actively listen and assess the immediate needs of a client facing a crisis, then employ motivational interviewing to help them recognize their strengths and commit to positive changes.
Can you walk us through your process for conducting a psychosocial assessment?
My approach involves gathering detailed information about a client’s history—including housing, employment, health, and support systems—assessing immediate needs, and identifying long-term goals. This comprehensive view allows me to tailor a service plan that addresses both strengths and barriers.
How do you develop individualized housing stabilization plans for residents?
I collaborate directly with clients to assess their needs and goals across various life domains such as income, health, and family dynamics. I identify available community resources and set clear short-term and long-term action steps, continuously monitoring and adjusting the plan as their circumstances change.

What strategies have you used to help clients overcome barriers such as substance use, mental health challenges, or criminal history?
I take a holistic approach, referring clients to specialized treatment programs, mental health counseling, and employment services. I also work with advocacy groups and landlords open to housing individuals facing such challenges, ensuring they have comprehensive support.
