Procurement and Tendering Flashcards
Name the most common procurement routes:
- Traditional
- Design and build
- Management Contracting
- Construction Management
- Serial/Term Contracting and Partnering
What is Management Contracting?
Management Contracting is a form of construction procurement where the Client for a project employs different Subcontractors directly. The Client has a Main Contractor in place that is responsible for managing the Subcontractors, but is not in contract with them in the same way as with traditional procurement.
What is Construction Management?
Using this method, the developer directly employs multiple subcontractors (referred to as Trade Contractors) instead of employing a single Main Contractor. The single feature that makes Construction Management unique, particularly from Management Contracting, is that the developer (referred to as the Employer) places individual contracts with separate specialist subcontractors themselves.
What is procurement?
Procurement is the process of purchasing goods or services. There are many different routes by which the design and construction of a building can be procured. The selected route should follow a strategy which fits the long-term objectives of the client’s business plan

Describe “ Public procurement as a tender method
Part of the UK Government Construction Strategy, and states the right model for public sector construction procurement.
Difference between single stage and two-stage
The main aim of the single-stage approach is to generate a firm price at the outset through a competitive tendering process, where-as the two-stage approach embraces a collaborative open book approach throughout the project.
What is a 2 stage tender?
Two stage tendering is used to allow the early appointment of a contractor, prior to the completion of all the information required to enable them to offer a fixed price.
Two stage tendering is typically used for design and build projects and involves engaging a contractor at a much earlier stage of a project. Stage 1: the employer tenders the project on the basis of an incomplete design, price and programme prepared by the employer’s professional team
Bingham. What was the procurement route?
Framework to facilitate a D&B route.
Procurement framework to facilitate a D&B
Framework provided the quality assurance on the contractors as they all have to provide their accounts, competence and insurance. This provided certainty on their capacity to successfully deliver a D&B contract.

I presented the following process to the client for confirmation and agreed a date then:
1- I contacted the contact person of each tendering contractor via email
2- Informed of the date for the interview and time slots
3- They were first comes first served
4- Asked to facilitate the names and titles of the people attending the interview.
The interview took place via teams as we still in pandemic at the time.
