Q

What are two main transforming resources?

A

▪ Human Resources; employees coordinate and combine inputs to produce a good/ service.
Employees can increase productivity and efficiency within the operations of a business. Therefore, it is the role of an ops manager to;
o Motivate staff through setting KPI and performance objectives
o Improve skills of their staff by providing extensive training, flexible work practices and
good communication
▪ Facilities; refers to the plant (factory or office) and machinery used in the operations process. Major decisions include the design layout of the facilities, the number of facilities to be used, their location and their capacity. In particular, the business needs to decide:
whether the required facilities should be located in one large site or divided among numerous smaller sites
what impact zoning and other restrictions will have upon the facilities size and location
special conditions, such as energy and water requirements
the most efficient plant design and process layout — the arrangement of machinery, equipment and people within the facility
