In highly automated production lines, IKEA utilises assembly line layouts to mass produce standardised goods. The manufacturing process is broken down into chronological order whereby automated machinery produces IKEA products with minimal human intervention. However, IKEA’s EKTOP Sofa is quite labour intensive; activities are split into ‘processes’ in a process layout.
