What is technology?

A

Technology may be defined as the design, construction and/ or application of innovative devices, methods and machinery upon operations processes. In this way, technology can be seen to be both a range of devices as well as a range of enabling processes and applications.
Technology (as any influence) can have either a positive and/ or a negative influence over a business. Technology, when invented, usually begins as an external influence, but once utilised within the business can then become an internal influence.
Technologies can be applied to, and integrated with, the range of processes that characterise the operations function in business.

(External influence and can act as a threat if there are the advances in tech that the business doesn’t capitalise on. Alternatively, can act as an opportunity if the business enhances innovates to enhance their operation process)
