What is monitoring?
Monitoring is the process of measuring actual performance against planned performance.
Example: teddy bear with glued on eyes were being produced by ikea
Controlling
Control occurs when KPIs are assessed against predetermined targets and corrective action is taken if required.
Prevention- forecasting variations before they occur.
Feed Forward- observing and measuring while its happening Feedback- observed after the fact
example: after more than 1 customer complaint about eyes falling off, ikea recalled teddy bears world wide
Improvement
Improvement refers to systematic reduction of inefficiencies and wastage, poor work processes and the elimination of any aspect of the transformation process that slows down the overall processing speed.
example: corrective action was taken, and going forward, all eyes were sewed on teddy bears instead of glue. In addition, rather than throwing away recalled teddy bears, Ikea used the material to make the keychains
