Process of DNA Replication Flashcards

1
Q

DNA replication and all enzymes involved

A
  1. Begins at the origin
  2. Helicase unwinds the DNA
  3. Single Stranded binding proteins keeps DNA strands seperate
  4. Toposimerase prevents supercooling
  5. Primase then makes primers on both strands
  6. DNA polymerase starts replicating and builds new strand from 5’to3’ (moving along old template strand 3’to5’)
    - the two strands forming are the leading and lagging. Lagging strand (discontinuous)is the replicated strand and forms Okazaki fragments
  7. Ligase will seal the Okazaki fragments together
  8. DNA polymerase prevents errors

In end there will be two double helix s from original double helix.
