Process of DNA Replication Flashcards
1
Q
DNA replication and all enzymes involved
A
- Begins at the origin
- Helicase unwinds the DNA
- Single Stranded binding proteins keeps DNA strands seperate
- Toposimerase prevents supercooling
- Primase then makes primers on both strands
- DNA polymerase starts replicating and builds new strand from 5’to3’ (moving along old template strand 3’to5’)
- the two strands forming are the leading and lagging. Lagging strand (discontinuous)is the replicated strand and forms Okazaki fragments - Ligase will seal the Okazaki fragments together
- DNA polymerase prevents errors
In end there will be two double helix s from original double helix.
