What are the purpose and objectives of Starting Up a Project (SU)?

A

The purpose is to answer the question, “Do we have a worthwhile and viable project?”
SU is about gathering the necessary information for the Project Board to make a decision regarding the initiation of the project.

Objectives:
* Create an Outline Business Case
* Look at the project approach to determine the best way to go about the project
* Choose who will be part of the project team
* Create the project brief
* Create a detailed Initiation Stage Plan

A

The purpose of IP is to understand the work that needs to be done to deliver the required products and establish a solid foundation of understanding before committing to significant time and resource investment.

Objectives:
* Expand upon the Project Brief and refine the Business Case
* Prepare the approaches (strategy documents): Risk Management, Change Control, Quality Management, Communication Management
* Create Project Controls
* Create Project Plan
* Assemble the Project Initiation Documentation (PID)

* Deliver stage products to the agreed quality, within agreed cost and timeframe, to achieve the agreed benefits.

The purpose of MP is to formally manage and control work between the PM and Team Manager by placing requirements on the accepting, executing, and delivery of products.

* Planned products are delivered to meet expected specifications within tolerance
* Accurate progress information is provided to the PM by the Team Manager
