Principles Of Training and Target Setting Flashcards
What are the four principles of training?
Specificity
Rest and recovery
Progressive overload
Individual needs and differences
What is a PEP?
Personal exercise programme
What is individual needs and differences?
Making sure the exercise programme is specific to an individual’s needs and fitness levels to avoid injury
What is specificity?
Matching the training requirements to the requirements of the activity
What is progressive over load?
The gradual increase of exercise/overload to gain fitness without risk of injury
What is rest and recovery?
Rest- the period of time allotted to recover
Recovery- the time required to repair damage to the body caused by training or competition
What does FITT stand for?
Frequency
Intensity
Time
Type
What does the frequency is FITT mean?
Planning how often you train
What does the intensity in FITT mean?
How hard you train
What does the time in FITT mean?
How long each training session must be in order to improve
What does the type in FITT mean?
The methods of training
Chosen to help reach the goal
What is reversibility?
An adaptation that takes place as a consequence of training will be reversed when you stop training
(Gradually loosing fitness when injured)
What are SMART targets?
Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time bound
What is the specific in SMART?
Knowing exactly what your goal is
Eg. Run 100m further in the cooper run
What is the measurable in SMART?
Knowing when the goal has been achieved
