Complex carbs like starch found in wholemeal foods should provide 50%of daily intake
Simple carbs like sugar stored in muscles at glycogen converted into glucose to give energy

Why is protein important?
Helps build muscles and repair damaged tissues

Why are minerals important?
Calcium aids growth and strong bones and decreases chance of osteoporosis found in milk
Iron helps form red blood cells to carry oxygen (lack of it=anaemia) found in meat
Why are vitamins important?

Why is water important?
It transports nutrients around the body Controls temperature Stay hydrated 8 glasses a day Sweat evaporates taking heat with it
Why is fibre important?
Aids digestion
Found in leaves seeds and roots of plants
Found in cereal
What is carbo-loading?
Eating a lot of carbs to get energy supplies up before a big event
What is blood shunting?
Distribution of blood from other areas into Muscle
Why should you wait to exercise after eating?
During exercise blood goes to working muscles so less is available to help digest which Cas cause cramp
